Yes, unicorns do exist, meaning I'm a Tampa native, third generation, so don't even think about putting lettuce and tomato on a Cuban, and it's a devil crab, not deviled. I was raised in Seminole Heights, and ink, along with cafe con leche y pan tostado, has been in my blood from the start. My maternal great grandfather was a Lector in the cigar factories of Ybor City and founded one of the first Spanish newspapers. I'm an alumnus of Tampa Catholic and USF, where the Oracle gave me my start in journalism. I came back home to the Times in 1995. I have grown triplets who have put up with Dad for 25 years, his crazy nighttime work hours, and rants that all his Tampa roadway shortcuts have been revealed. Ay dios mio!
