A 24-year-old man from Zephyrhills was killed Tuesday night when he was hit by a car while he was riding a bicycle, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Troopers said the bicyclist was riding with another man who was also on a bicycle when the crash occurred about 9:08 p.m. Tuesday on Wire Road near Otis Allen Road in Zephyrhills.

The bicyclist who was killed was hit by a Ford Mustang that was being driven by a 17-year-old girl from Dade City, troopers said.

Troopers said the men did not have lights on their bikes and the girl did not see them as she drove up behind them.

The Mustang hit one of the bikes but not the other. The bicyclist who was hit was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, troopers said.

The other bicyclist, a 20-year-old man from Zephyrhills, was not injured. The driver of the Mustang also was not injured, troopers said.

Troopers did not release the names of the people involved because of Marsy’s Law.
